Heinkel He 162 at 2:25 reminds me of A-10 american tank destroyer
megatwingo Says:
The Me262 wasn´t the first jet fighter. It was the first mass produced jet fighter that was ready for combat. The first German one was 1939 the He 178 (never mass produced, never saw combat) The second German one was the He 280 in 1941 (never mass produced, never saw combat) The Me 262 flew first on 1942. Some of the "Kamikaze" Fi 103 were produced. When some where ready, the SO-Einsätze (Selbstopferungseinsätze = self sacrifice mission) were not carried out. It was never used for it´s purpose.
megatwingo Says:
Sorry, I meant He 162 Salamander (Volksjäger), of course. Not He 163.
megatwingo Says:
He 163 Salamander killed in their short career only one Hawker Typhoon and several German pilots. During a show flight parts of the 163 fell of because of bad glue for the wooden parts. The pilot was killed. The Salamander was meant to be flown by inexperienced young pilots. By hastly in gliders trained Hitlerjugend. It was insane, because even if the 163 was meant easy to fly, it was difficult to fly. The engine on the back made it too sensitive for the bad educated young pilots.
megatwingo Says:
Sorry, but I think, you are mixing some things up. -The Natter killed it´s only test pilot and that was it. It saw not a single fight. -The Me163 was as dangerous to it´s pilots as to the enemy and many pilots died because of the unstable fuel during start and landing. The range was very short and the allies avoided the areas with Me163 bases. The final chapter was the bombing of the special fuel factories. From that day on the Me163 remained the rest of the war on the ground.

Gave them housing, medical care, jobs, salaries and for those who wanted to stay citizenship. Considering that the alternative was a bombed to hell Germany with none of the aforementioned or work with the Russians this was a sweet deal and likely didn't require much persuading.
PinkTorpedoMan Says:
REALLY WELL DONE - I've loved all of these planes since I was a kid!
SemtexOnline Says:
The Natter was so insane that the Air Force refused to fund it, it was the SS that provided the funds. The other designs were a result of brilliant minds combined with an insane project timetable - you can't have any more time, because our nation may not exist after the deadline, so get cracking! :)
ThePendrag0n Says:
The Natter and the Komet were true point defense weapons. The Natter killed more in accidents than combat. 163 was amazing and VERY fast. Lippisch made one hell of a design. Big drawback was cyclic rate of her guns...could miss target if it fell within window of the cycle rate. The Volksfighter was amazing..and made to allow quick field repairs...though abit hard to get out of..Me262 was amazing..the Fi 103 was just insane.

Wasn't the manned V1 a quick way to fault find the problem they had with the gyrator or something?
McLOVERROCKS Says:
idk but its in the movie kick ass i know that for a fact
TheKulu42 Says:
Where these projects really fail time and again is the lack of qualified pilots. Goering wanted to put teenage boys in those "people's fighters." Put a kid who can't even drive into a jet fighter. That's not happening.
skycaprob Says:
the plane at 1.53 wasnt advanced and wasnt experimentle it was a intercept aircraft for high level bombers the entire plane was a bomb though the fuel tank was the plane itself and when u went up to eat some planes u would be out of fuel and had to dive back down to earth whare escorts would chew u up. lol
rainer1980 Says:
A lot of the jet fighters and advanced bombers were proposed in the early years of the war, but in hubris, Hitler and the leadership thought the propeller-driven planes were sufficient and saw the development of jet technology as a waste of money until they started loosing. And by then these advanced planes were too little too late.
